McDANIEL, Hezekiah Private Mar 4, 1862. Wounded at Richmond, VA June 1863.
Wounded in right leg, necessitating amputation, and lost sight of left eye
at Jericho Ford, VA May 23, 1864. Absent, wounded, close of war. (Born in
GA Jan 1841)

from pension application:
In June 1862 (Seven Days Fight of Frasers Farm) he was wounded in the left eye by a buck shot which entirely destroyed the sight and in May 1864 (Battle of the Wilderness) was wounded in the right leg below the knee which resulted in amputation of the leg below the knee.

Near Petersburg
Company left camp near Orange CH VA May 4th. Engaged the enemy at Wilderness May 5 & 6th. Losses 2 killed four wounded, marched from there to Spotsylvania CH. We again engaged the enemy with the loss of two wounded on the 12th. From there to Jerico Ford, engaged the enemy a third time on the 23d, losses one killed three wounded, two taken prisoners. From there to Turkey Ridge, not engaged by the enemy. Captain wounded on the 3 June by a Sharp Shooter. From there to Riddle Shop. There charged the enemy on the 16th June. Losses one killed none wounded. From there to Petersburg where we are in line of battle from the place named above

Will and Court Documents:

State of Georgia, Upson County

Last Will of Hezekiah McDaniel, of said county.
Item 1st:
Intending this to be my last will, I hereby revoke all will heretofore made by me.
Item 2nd:
I wish my executrix, as soon as possible after my death, to pay my debts, and desire that any money that I should leave on hand be first used for that purpose; and should a sale of any property be necessary, I wish her to select from my estate that which can be best used for that purpose, and empower her to sell the same publicy or privately, as she may think best.
Item 3rd:
I give, bequeath and devise to my beloved wife, Matilda McDaniel for and during her natural life all property that I may die seized and possessed of, she to have the exclusive use and enjoyment of the same as long as she may live. And should she think best to make sale of any portion of my real estate for the purpose of re-investment in other lands, she may do so- at either public or private sale; the deed taken by her to the lands purchased with the money arising from the sale of said lands to be taken in her name and for life only, and at her death to my daughter Mary Hannah Starling for and during her natural life and at her death to her children.
Item 4th:
The property herein given to my wife Matilda McDaniel- I here direct shall ba also subject to any debt that she may leave unpaid at her death, including burial expenses and all other debts.
Item 5th:
After the death of my said wife, Matilda McDaniel, should she survive me, I hereby give bequeath and devise all of the property left to her in the 3rd Item of this my will to my daughter- Mary Hannah Starling- and at her death to her children.
Item 6th:
All of the property left to my daughter Mary Hannah Starling- She shall have the exclusive use of the same; and should she desire to sell any of the real estate left to her in this my will, and re-invest the proceeds of the same in other lands, the title of the same to be taken by her in her name and at her death to her children.
Item 7th:
I hereby appoint my wife, Matilda McDaniel as executrix of this my will, without bond, and she shall not be required to make any returns to any Court having jurisdiction of my estate.

In testimony whereof, I have herto set my hand, this the 12th day of December, 1914.
